Aston Blueberries Reduce Cardiovascular Risk Factors

In this randomized controlled trial, 48 obese men and women with metabolic syndrome consumed freeze-dried blueberries daily for 8 weeks. Compared to the control group, the blueberry group showed significant reductions in systolic and diastolic blood pressure as well as markers of lipid peroxidation. However, no significant changes were observed in glucose, insulin, or lipid profiles. The study supports the cardioprotective potential of blueberries in realistic dietary amounts, particularly with regard to lowering blood pressure and reducing oxidative stress.
