Peter – Blueberries Improve Biomarkers of Cardiometabolic Function
This 6-month, double-blind, randomized, controlled trial included 115 adults with metabolic syndrome. Daily consumption of one cup of blueberries led to sustained improvements in endothelial function, arterial stiffness, and HDL cholesterol, particularly among participants not taking statins. While insulin resistance remained unchanged, the observed effects predict a 12–15% reduction in cardiovascular risk. The study highlights blueberries as an effective dietary strategy for reducing individual and population-wide cardiovascular risk.
