Korat – The Relationship Between Dietary Protein Intake in Middle Age and Healthy Aging

This large prospective cohort study of over 48,000 women found that a higher total protein intake in midlife—particularly from plant sources—is associated with a higher likelihood of “healthy aging.” Healthy aging was defined as a long life free of major chronic diseases, with good mental health and preserved cognitive and physical function. Consuming plant-based protein instead of animal protein, fat, or carbohydrates was particularly beneficial. The results support a focus on plant-based proteins to promote long-term health.
