The ApaCare Story
From research to innovation in dental care and health promotion

The history of ApaCare is an impressive example of how basic scientific research can lead to innovative products for daily dental care and beyond. At the end of the 1990s in Tübingen, university professor Dr. Rainer Hahn and his team began working on a revolutionary ultrasound device for the pain-free treatment of periodontitis.

From ultrasound to "liquid enamel"

In their search for a suitable transmission medium for ultrasound energy, the researchers came across apatite compounds that are very similar to natural tooth enamel. After intensive scientific exchange, they succeeded in producing synthetic fluorapatite. However, the complex production process initially prevented commercialization. The breakthrough came with hydroxyapatite, which is stable and available in large quantities. The researchers found that certain grain sizes of this "liquid enamel" could close the finest pores and cracks in the tooth enamel and adhere permanently to the tooth surface. Test subjects reported particularly smooth, shiny teeth and visible whitening effects.

From the laboratory to the market

In 2005, the tooth repair paste ApaCare & Repair was developed on this basis, initially for use in dental practices, but soon also for end customers. The unique formula proved particularly effective in the regression of caries lesions, the treatment of painful and sensitive tooth necks and enamel deformities such as chalky teeth. In 2008, ApaCare toothpaste was launched on the market, which combines the synergistic effects of fluoride and hydroxyapatite - and soon became known as the "dentists' toothpaste".

Expansion and new horizons

The product portfolio grew steadily and now includes tooth polishing pastes, mouthwashes and even anti-caries chewing gum. From Germany and Austria, ApaCare expanded worldwide. From 2015, the focus expanded to include microbiome research, which led to the launch of the oral probiotic Biolactis in 2018. Health-promoting bacteria support the regeneration of a healthy oral flora and strengthen the immune system and the natural balance of oral health.

The future: microbiome promotion and blood pressure regulation

A new milestone is the launch of OraLactin in March 2023, which builds on the proven ApaCare base with liquid tooth enamel and additionally combines pre- and postbiotic active ingredients to support the colonization of health-promoting bacteria in the mouth. Particularly noteworthy is OraLactin's potential to promote nitrate-reducing bacteria, which can have a positive effect on blood pressure regulation through the production of nitric oxide. Nitric oxide has a vasodilating effect and can therefore lower blood pressure naturally.

ApaCare and OraLactin form two independent product lines that complement each other perfectly. Both use proven ingredients and liquid tooth enamel to remineralize, whiten and care for teeth. While ApaCare focuses on the effect on teeth and gums, OraLactin goes a step further: It integrates pre- and postbiotic components with a probiotic effect that promote oral health and contribute to general health care and the prevention of important body functions such as blood pressure regulation.

The ApaCare Story shows how continuous research can revolutionize dental care and enable far-reaching positive effects on general health. With a view to the future, the team is already developing functional foods and nutritional supplements - the next exciting stage in ApaCare's success story.
