The 10 most important tips for dental care

A lot does not always help a lot!

Dental plaque and plaque are completely natural. Within minutes of, for example, a professional dental cleaning at the dentist, the tooth and root surfaces are colonized by bacteria called biofilm (plaque). Left unchecked, the bacteria in the biofilm mature after 24-72 hours and can cause diseases such as caries and periodontitis.

To avoid this, teeth should be cleaned 2 times a day:

In the morning: thorough "cleaning brushing" > 3 minutes (before breakfast). Biofilms must be removed as completely as possible.

In the evening: "care and feel-good tooth brushing". Important ingredients of the toothpaste (fluoride, liquid enamel) should be attached to the cleaned surface (at the earliest 2 hours after eating acidic meals/drinks).

Expert tip
Multiple daily brushing of teeth during the day is unnecessary. On the contrary, multiple incomplete brushing is almost like not brushing at all. In addition, there is a risk of damaging the enamel (abrasions, erosions).

Brushing your teeth is more than cleaning!

Brushing the teeth stimulates the flow of saliva. In addition to cleaning, the tooth surfaces are regenerated with important saliva minerals, especially calcium. Together with the important fluoride from the toothpaste, a protective calcium-fluoride layer forms on the teeth after about 3 minutes, which remineralizes attacked tooth enamel and blocks subsequent acid attacks. This protective layer must be reapplied twice a day (tooth brushing).

Expert tip
After brushing, only spit out the fluoride toothpaste, do not rinse!

The right toothbrush / brush pressure!

The best and most efficient tooth cleaning is achieved during childhood, adolescence and adulthood with fast-moving, mechanical (electric) toothbrushes. Some users prefer sonic toothbrushes (ApaCare® Sonic Brush), others rotary - the important thing is that the brushes move quickly.

The brush head should not be too large and should be medium-hard (ApaCare® 3D Sensitive brush heads) and should be replaced at least every 2 months. The brush is held at an angle against the tooth and gums and only pressed lightly (the gums just become slightly whitish). The brush does the rest on its own.

If you wish, you can rotate the brushes slightly on the spot or wipe out towards the open mouth. Back-and-forth movements across the row of teeth worsen the brushing result and can cause damage to the neck of the tooth or gums (please avoid).

Expert tip
Machine brushing is better than manual brushing with manual toothbrushes!

Interdental spaces!

We recommend dental floss for young adults with healthy gums. These are now available in a particularly slippery form.

In case of receding gums or periodontitis, interdental brushes of the right size (do not jam) are recommended.

Expert tip
Interdental hygiene once a day is sufficient.

The right toothpaste!

A modern toothpaste cleans gently and contains fluoride in any case. Children up to the age of 6 need 500 ppm fluoride (children's toothpaste). Children from the age of 6, adolescents and adults need up to 1500 ppm fluoride (adolescent or adult toothpaste).

Very modern toothpastes also contain liquid enamel (medical hydroxyapatite) to build up a smoothing protective enamel layer on the tooth surface with each brushing. This heals small tooth defects, reduces hypersensitivity and gently whitens.

Expert tip
Fluoride with liquid enamel. We recommend ApaCare® dental care products, also because of their good tolerance and the consistent absence of preservatives, etc.

Tooth polishing paste for home!

Those who are prone to discoloration or tartar should clean their teeth 1-2 times a week with a gentle polishing paste instead of toothpaste. This way, you can consistently continue the professional teeth cleaning from the dentist at home.

Expert tip
Use ApaCare® Polish tooth polishing paste 1-2 times a week instead of toothpaste.

Repair / whitening after brushing your teeth!

Professional repair pastes such as ApaCare® Repair Intensive Repair look like toothpaste, but they are not! They are highly concentrated repair gels (tooth conditioners) with liquid tooth enamel (medical hydroxyapatite) for intensive prophylaxis against caries. The best result is achieved when the repair paste is applied to clean tooth surfaces after brushing with fluoride-containing toothpaste.

Pores and cracks are closed, decalcifications can be reduced, sensitivities disappear and teeth become whiter.

Expert tip
In the evening after brushing, apply ApaCare® Repair Intensive Repair with a toothbrush or finger, spread, spit out and leave on overnight. Do not rinse!

Mouth rinse for whom?

Mouth rinses should contain gentle antibacterial active complexes. These penetrate the dental plaque (biofilm) and inhibit the pathogenic bacteria in the long term.

Mouth rinses are generally not suitable for children under the age of 12 and should be used regularly on a long-term basis, especially by adults with gum problems or periodontitis.

Expert tip
Rinse twice daily for 30 seconds with ApaCare® Liquid. In between, if possible not directly after brushing.

Are dental care chewing gums useful?

Chewing gum stimulates the flow of saliva and thus buffers harmful acids caused by bacteria.

But you can do more!

Dental care chewing gums such as ApaGum® contain 100% xylitol (natural birch sugar) and can thus prevent tooth decay by up to 100%. In addition, they contain important enamel minerals, which support the remineralization of the teeth in a very sustainable way.

Expert tip
6 weeks anti-caries chewing gum cure (cure pack)!
Adults and children from 12 years of age: 2 ApaGum® chewing gums 3 times a day.
Children from the age of 3: 1 ApaGum® chewing gum 3 times a day

Particularly sustainable: colonize good bacteria (probiotics)

A particularly lasting effect on the reduction of harmful microorganisms or microorganisms associated with bad breath can be achieved by regular use of natural probiotics such as BioLactis®. Application 1 time a day (60 s dissolve in the mouth or rinse in water) for 30 days protects up to 3 months. Probiotics such as BioLactis® effectively reduce bad breath, protect against caries and periodontitis, and are beneficial to the oral mucosa.

Expert tip
Regular use of high-quality oral probiotics such as BioLactis® can restore the balance of healthy oral flora and supports the natural defenses.
For all age groups from the age of 3.
