The Top 10 Dental Care Tips

ApaCare Team

Plaque is entirely natural. For example, within minutes after a professional teeth cleaning by a dental technician, your teeth and root surfaces are being re-colonised with bacteria called biofilm (plaque).

The bacteria in our mouth continue to build the biofilm over the 24-72 hours after cleaning and may cause diseases such as caries and periodontitis. In order to avoid this, teeth should be cleaned twice a day:

In the morning:
Basic cleaning: clean the teeth carefully for > 3 minutes (before breakfast). The biofilm must be removed as completely possible.

In the evening:
Care and wellness brushing: important ingredients of toothpaste (fluoride, liquid enamel) should be attached to the cleaned surface of the teeth (at least 2 hours after eating acidic meals drinks).

Our advice:
Multiple cleanings of the teeth during the day is superfluous. In fact: performing multiple incomplete cleanings is almost like not brushing at all. Thus, there is a danger of the damaging tooth enamel (abrasion, erosion).

During brushing, the flow of saliva is stimulated. In addition to being cleaned, the tooth surfaces will be regenerated with major salivary minerals, especially calcium. Along with the fluoride from the toothpaste, after about 3 minutes a calcium fluoride protective layer will be formed on the teeth. The attacked enamel will be remineralised and can blocks subsequent acid attacks. This protective layer must be re-applied twice a day (through brushing).

Our advice:
After brushing with a fluoride toothpaste, only spit, do not rinse!

The best and most efficient tooth cleaning at all ages is achieved with rapidly oscillating, mechanical (electrical) toothbrushes. Some users prefer sonic toothbrushes and others rotating – but the important thing is that the brush moves quickly.

The brush head should be the right size and not too large; a medium hardness is best the brush should be replaced at least every 2 months. The brush should be held at an angle against the teeth and gums and only slight pressure should be applied (the gum is just slightly whitish). The brush does the rest of the cleaning on its own.

Optionally, the brush can be easily rotated in place or wiped against the open mouth. Back and forth- movements on the teeth will degrade the brushing result and can cause damage to the tooth neck or gums (please avoid).

Our advice:
Machine cleaning is better than cleaning with manual toothbrushes!

We recommend young adults with healthy gums floss with special lubricious dental floss. Your pharmacy can advise and support you.

For adults with receding gums or periodontitis, the use of interdental brushes with the correct size (do not clamp) is recommended.

Our advice:
Once per day is enough.

Modern toothpastes gently clean and contain fluoride. Up to 6 years of age, children need 500 ppm fluoride (children's toothpaste). Children over the age of 6, adolescents and adults need 1500 ppm fluoride (youth or adult toothpaste).

Invocative toothpastes also contain liquid enamel (medical hydroxyapatite) to assist the formation of a smoothing enamel protective coating on the tooth surface with every cleaning. This heals small dental defects, reduces hypersensitivity and whitens the teeth gently.

Our advice:
Many dentists recommend: clean your teeth with liquid enamel and fluoride. All ApaCare dental care products include liquid enamel and are recommended because of good compatibility and the absence of preservatives, etc.

People who are prone to discoloration or calculus should clean the teeth 1-2 times a week with a gentle polishing paste instead of toothpaste. That way, professional tooth cleaning by the dentist can consistently continue at home.

Our advice:
Use ApaCare Professional home 1-2 times per week instead of toothpaste.

Professional repair pastes like such as ApaCare Repair Intensive gel look like toothpaste, but they are not! Special repair gels are highly-concentrated and contain liquid enamel (medical hydroxyapatite) for intensive prophylaxis against caries. The best result is achieved if the repair paste is applied to clean tooth surfaces after brushing with a fluoride toothpaste. Pores and cracks are sealed, decalcification is regressed, sensitivities are stopped and the teeth shine white.

Our advice:
Apply ApaCare Repair Intensive Gel with a toothbrush or finger in the evenings after brushing, then distribute, spit out and let it absorb overnight. Do not rinse!

Tooth and mouth balm contains gentle antibacterial active complexes. These penetrate the dental plaque (biofilm) and inhibit pathogenic bacteria for the long-term. Tooth and mouth balm can be used at any age but is usually not recommended for children under the age of 12 years. It should be used regularly, especially in adults with gum problems or periodontitis.

Our advice:
Twice daily, rinse for 30 seconds with ApaCare Liquid. In the meantime, during the day and if possible not after teeth brushing.

Chewing gum stimulates salivation and buffers bacteria and harmful acids. But you can do more! ApaGum dental chewing gum contains 100% xylitol (natural birch sugar) and can prevent caries up to 100%. In addition, the gum contains important enamel minerals that support long-term tooth remineralisation.

Our advice:
6 weeks anti-caries cure (cure package)! Adults and children over the age of 12 years: 3 x 2 ApaGums per day. Children over the age of 3 years: 3 x 1 ApaGum per day.

Professional tooth cleaning by a dentist or dental technician should be performed at regular intervals. The goal is to remove tartar and provide professional coatings as well as to polish the tooth surface. Important: professional tooth cleaning and prophylaxis can only support dental care at home and should not be a substitute.

Our advice:
Ask for demand-driven appointments with the attending dentist. Have your teeth professionally cleaned once, rarely twice and very rarely four times a year.
